 Overview as an Operational Manager in the Industry.

As an employee who is currently employed under professional staff category in the Education Industry, I am personally experiencing it challenging to motivate ourselves to work. At certain points people feel demotivated and reluctant to go above and beyond their comfort zone to add a value to the organization. This is resulting in less employee engagement. 

As an operational manager who has been working in the industry over 5 years and also in the service industry almost 7 years personally experience that you cannot get motivation through the customer always. Specifically in the private higher education industry it is not always possible to keep the customer happy due to rules and regulations. Employees will have to adhere to certain deadlines, and rules imposed by either University Grants Commission or respective university authorities. As a result the customer will not be satisfied. This may result in getting blamed from the customer and no matter how much of an effort an employee puts, they will still get blamed. Ultimately this will result in loosing motivation and passion towards their job. At this point leaders must come to play to make them feel valued and appreciated to all the work they have done except for what they could not do due to factors that were above and beyond their control. HR practices discussed on previous blogs can bring into play. 

Working in education industry itself is quite challenging simply because you are dealing with people with different socio-economic statuses. On the other hand, satisfying the customer while adhering to organizational procedure is challenging. 

Leaders can use different strategies such as rewards for all the hassle they go through. In the industry, we see employees who are de-motivated and not engaged with their work. Ultimately they will not serve the customer right. In that point, the organization can use a training on customer experience to keep them engaged with customers right. Employees can use this training with their career. Hence, they will be able to deliver their best with their learning outcomes. In addition you can create appreciation methods for best customer service which will definitely make the employee give their best performance. Ultimately the organization will reach their customer experience goal. 

As academics, they also find it very challenging in current context dealing with the alpha generation students. Almost all academics belongs to Y gen, genZ, Millenials. As a result, it is quite challenging to bridge the gap between the student and the lecturer and satisfy them. Academics could be given special Personal Development Programmes which will help them to develop themselves and to deliver best to students using novel teaching methods. 

Creating a positive working environment through a positive organizational culture will definitely help employees in the Industry. Empowering employees to make decisions will help to keep the organization going. Having a flatter hierarchy will help employee empowerment. When staff members can provide a decision soon, customers will be happy. Additionally having a clan culture will keep employees happy since they can discuss any concern they have freely. 

When you are an employee at an eduucational institute, you are dealing with future of people. Hence, the job can be challenging. Yet, having a proper work and job design will help the organization to achieve its goals and objectives in long run.
